Part 1: Making Duffins

Staff: So you tried making duffins, which are a hybrid dessert that’s popular in London. How was it?

Seohyun: It was really fun! It was my first time to make duffins, but I thought it would be perfect as a gift, so I want to study and try making them even at home. They’re so good that I might eat too many (laughs)

Staff: Do you usually bake cakes and breads?

Seohyun: Sometimes I make chocolate at home! When I was in middle school, I did some baking for club activities. I love cute things and I like to make things as well, so I would like to make even more, but I don’t really have time so it’s kind of a shame. (laughs)

Staff: Do the members all make meals together?

Seohyun: When the members get together, oftentimes we’re busy and can’t arrange times for meals, so we usually just get food delivered. Everyone loves to eat, and we usually order chicken ^^

Staff: If you were to make duffins again, what ingredients and toppings would you want to make it with?

Seohyun: I want to try making them with my favorite spread, Nutella! I want to make lots of them, but after eating them I’d have to work out a lot…(laughs) I won’t be able to eat them that frequently, but I want to have them when I want to change my mood! Also, I want to make and then give them away as presents!

Staff: How often do you eat sweets?

Seohyun: I have to think about my health, so… I don’t eat them that frequently. Of course, I’d like to eat them ^^ I’m the type to really get into not just sweets, but any food that I think is delicious. I would eat the same thing for quite some time…(laughs) Before, when I was in a musical, it really demanded a lot of stamina, so when the first act ended I’d always eat donuts one by one. My blood sugar would shoot up and they’re easy to eat. So from that I got addicted to donuts…(laughs) Incidentally, I’m addicted to mochi (rice cakes) instead of donuts right now (laughs)

Staff: You really pay attention to your health, so is there anything that you’re eating now for your health?

Seohyun: When I don’t have time to eat breakfast, I make and then drink a smoothie. I often make them with frozen bananas and soymilk, but sometimes I add in tofu. At first, I had second thoughts about putting in tofu, but surprisingly it was savory and delicious. Tofu is also good for replenishing protein! Sometimes, I also add in blueberries or other foods that I want to eat. It’s just a smoothie, but it’s a great replacement for breakfast. My stomach also feels full! It was also the case when I made duffins, but I am very curious so I will add any ingredient that I’d like to try. (laughs)

Staff: Today you made duffins with various toppings, so which duffin do you want to give to each member?

Seohyun: Taeyeon, Sunny, and Tifany love sweets so I want to give it to them! Among them, Tiffany loves sweets the most, so I want to give her the one with the cookie topping. I also want Tiffany to have the duffin with the five chocolate sticks as a topping (laughs)

Staff: Among the duffins you made just now, there was one that had the topping a little messed up.

Seohyun: I feel as if Hyoyeon would forgive me (laughs) She will probably tease me before eating it, but I think she’ll definitely relish it.

Staff: Are there any handmade sweets that were memorable?

Seohyun: There are fans that are really good at making handmade sweets. We always receive plenty, but the most memorable were the sweets that had all of SNSD’s faces on it. It was really cute and it conveyed the feelings of the person who made it, so it was really moving. It was too good that we almost couldn’t eat them. But when we did, the flavor was really delicious. I ate too much (laughs)

Staff: You also tried out table setting today. Do you usually have to set the table?

Seohyun: I usually don’t pay too much attention to it, but it was really interesting when I actually tried it out today! I really enjoyed it because I like to draw and decorate things. Actually, I like to buy kitchen supplies, however I don’t have a lot of time to use them…(laughs) I would buy necessary things like measuring cups and give them to my mother. When I have time, I’d make dishes like fried rice and pasta at home. My mother is good at cooking and she teaches me recipes. Recently she taught me how to make chige nabe (Korean stew)! The soup stock is important ^^

Staff: If SNSD were to have a house party, what kind of party would you like it to be?

Seohyun: Our company has a Halloween party, but I want to have a Halloween party with just the SNSD members! It’ll be fun to make cupcakes to go with Halloween!

Staff: According to Yuri, all the members of SNSD are good with their fingers, but which member is the best at making sweets?

Seohyun: Tiffany and Taeyeon like to make cakes. Tiffany would make brownies and the like and give them to the members! Yoona really likes cooking so I think she would surely be able to make sweets well!

Staff: Please tell us if there are any foods besides sweets that you’re addicted to!

Seohyun: Recently, I’ve been really into sushi. I got into it around summer this year and the managers are shocked that I eat sushi everyday. (laughs) I like medium fatty tuna the best. But I like fatty tuna too… In any case, I love tuna. Ah, I also love grilled medium fatty tuna, too ^^ Also, I like sweet shrimp! Talking about sushi makes me want to eat it (laughs) I feel like this sushi obsession will continue on for a while. I will never get tired of sushi. Even though I eat it everyday I’m not tired of it~.

Staff: Does everyone like Japanese food?

Seohyun: I really like Japanese food! When I can go to Japan, I can eat delicious sushi (laughs) Among the members, there are those who like sushi and those that like ramen. Those in the ramen group are Hyoyeon, Sunny, and Taeyeon. However, Hyoyeon also likes sushi, so when I go out to have sushi, she comes along when I invite her.

Part 2: A Message to Everyone

Staff: This time you got to try making duffins, but what would you like to try for the next SONE NOTE LIVE?

Seohyun: Next time I’d like to try a sport or something active! Recently, I’ve gotten into horseback riding and I really love this horse named Beethoven. I got the chance to learn horseback riding through a drama, but at that time out of the six horses I rode, the one that I got along and understood the most was Beethoven. He’s really obedient and smart! He immediately understands anything I say and we’ve become good friends. Beethoven loves me so much to the point where he would always follow me around the shooting site! It was really cute <3 I want to try horseback riding for the next SONE NOTE LIVE.

Staff: Is there anything else that’s popular for you or among the members besides food and horseback riding?

Seohyun: This year when I had even just a little bit of time, I tried out various things that I hadn’t had the chance to do yet. Recently, I often write. When I’m busy, there are times when I don’t remember what happened on that day, so I try to write in my diary as much as possible. I also write lyrics. I listen to music while I put my thoughts into words or write lyrics. I’d like to show everyone one day!

Staff: What kind of year was 2016?

Seohyun: I worked my absolute best this year! I want to say “Good job!” to myself (laughs) When I work like this, the end of the year is always the busiest because there are award ceremonies and events. However, when this time comes, I’m always satisfied with the feeling that I really tried my best living this year too. I’m really grateful that I can work right up to the year’s end! I’m very thankful that I’ve always been busy for 9 years since debut.

Staff: This year, what activity was the most memorable for you?

Seohyun: This year, we had SNSD activities, but we concentrated on solo activities. The most memorable for me was attempting a TV drama for the first time. Of course, there are many areas that I still lack, but it was still worth doing. There were many things that I learned from through that drama. I learned horseback riding and sword dancing. It was really enjoyable despite how hectic it was during shooting. I believe this will always be memorable throughout my life.

Staff: Not just the performance, but the costumes you wore for the drama were really beautiful.

Seohyun: The person in charge of costumes was really considerate. They would always ask me what kind of color would be good… They created a really beautiful outfit after talking with me about my wishes and then having my wishes reflected in the outfit. It is too pretty and I thought to even bring it back home and hang it up in my room. (laughs)

Staff: What is your goal for 2017?

Seohyun: Next year is SNSD’s 10th anniversary, so I want to show how we’ve grown as SNSD! Individually, I really enjoyed acting and I want to try being in a movie. I want to try out many new things like that!

Staff: On the SONE JAPAN site, we’ve added a survey system like fanclub members gathering ideas for goods. Is there anything that you’d like to ask the members?

Seohyun: I want to try asking them which image of SNSD do they like the best. The feminine image, the cool and wonderful image, the close, intimate image, the cute image, the charismatic image, etc… I want them to tell us which is their favorite ^^

Staff: Finally, a message for SONE JAPAN, please.

Seohyun: I really really want to meet you all! I miss you!! Every time I go to Japan, I remember the memories about the tours. I always miss you. Even when I’m in Korea, or in Japan, I always miss everyone in SONE JAPAN and I want to see you all. It’d be great if this feeling gets conveyed to SONE JAPAN~. Please stay healthy and be careful not to catch a cold. Everyone, there’s only a bit left remaining in the year, but please have a fun year end. Please think a lot about SNSD~ (laughs) Let’s meet again next year~ I love you <3
